SMSA

While I am writing this update, the Sheffield Malaysian Students Association (Sheffield University) or known as SMSA has already started their Weekend @ Sheffield. It is an event where all Malaysian students from UK and Ireland are invited to come and participate in their annual events namely Sheffield Malaysian Games and Nasheed Extragavanza. I am glad that they have chosen me to re-design and develop their website in such a way that will make them run their organization smoothly.

During the design process, I took the task that is given to slightly higher level that required in which I choose to see this task as a communication, management and promotion problem that need to be solved. In this update, I would like to feature several functions that I have integrated within the website that enable them to move forward and manage the event quite well so far.

SMSA Official website

The snapshot above is the official website of SMSA which I help to redesign. I understand the nature of student that they don’t have much time to spend on organization website as compared to social networking website such as Facebook. Thus, I believe Featured Content is the right way to tackle this problem.

Since the main highlight for the past several weeks is the Weekend @ Sheffield program, thus I have put it as a featured content. As soon as someone load the SMSA official website, he or she will automatically notices the featured content straight away which will then lead the visitor to click and read more about it.

At the same time, Newsflash section is also available for any updates which not as important as the featured updates. On the side bar, the About Us will give a little bit information regarding the organization and Useful Links will point visitors to any other websites that is related to the organization such as the University of Sheffield.

One the event that is a highlight for the Weekend @ Sheffield program is the Sheffield Malaysian Games. Besides the website design, the main challenge that the organization face is regarding the team registration issues. After several discussions, we have agreed to put a downloadable form for student organization to fill in and submit it online. Based on the number of teams that registered for this event, I would say the registration issues has been successfully overcome and today we have teams from all over the UK and Ireland participating in the event.

Sheffield Malaysian Games 2009

In terms of promotion, I would like to congratulate them because they have done a such good job. Literally, for the past one month all the SMSA committee members have changed their profile pictures to the Weekend @ Sheffield banner that I produced. They have also write blog post about the event and use the Share This button on the main website to post the website update on their Facebook profile page.

Above all, I am really glad to work with all the committee of SMSA as they have responded to all of my requests as well as accepting my suggestions and advices regarding several issues concerning the website. Wishing them all the best for the coming years and thank them for hiring me.
