About Us
Cardiff Racing is the Formula Student team of Cardiff University and is part of the Cardiff School of Engineering. At the 2005 event, the team reached 2nd place amongst U.K. entrants and 8th overall out of over 60 universities from all over the world.
» HISTORY
Cardiff Racing competed in the 2007 Formula Student event from the 12th to the 15th July in Sliverstone. The team entered in class 1-200 which is a class for developed versions of the cars entered in the previous year. The total number of entrants in the class was 8 and the team came 5th due to a retirement in the endurance event although they recorded solid performances in other categories. Read more »
A challenging but successful time for Cardiff Racing at Formula Student 2006. Cardiff Racing arrived at Bruntingthorpe on the first day of Formula Student. The equipment and car was unpacked and the pit area set up. Unfortunately the team were not early enough to be scrutineered that day so that happened first thing on the second day. The team had minor issues to fix and later that day sailed through the scrutineering, noise and tilt test. Following this CR03 underwent a brake test. On the first attempt, the front right brake disc failed very spectacularly, damaging the upright. Read more »
CR02 is a masterpiece of design. Every effort has been made to reduce weight and optimise perfomance. Special features include the custom designed and built differential and housing, the optimised plenum and exhaust, the fullly mapped engine, the lightweight chassis and the custom designed and built hubs, uprights and suspension members. This hardworking group of students burned the midnight oil all year, and this didn’t stop when we reached Bruntingthorpe. No problem was too big to fix and the team maintained their spirit and humour through some difficult times. Read more »
After exams finished, a dedicated team of hardworking engineering students gave up their social lives, the chance of well-paid employment, the chance to return home and live free in comfort, all for the sake of spending hours in the workshop building CR01b - Cardiff University’s first Class 1 entry to Formula Student.
