History

Year 2004

After exams finished, a dedicated team of hardworking engineering students gave up their social lives, the chance of well-paid employment, the chance to return home and live free in comfort, all for the sake of spending hours in the workshop building CR01b - Cardiff University’s first Class 1 entry to Formula Student.

Chris Taylor showed many excellent skills in the workshop, as well as being in charge of tidiness, and the late addition of Alastair Clarke to the team proved very popular.

Of course, excellent culinary skills were required too - this army marches on its stomach and Karen did express a few concerns that too many animal fats would have a detrimental effect on fitness.

The final build was completed in the pits at Bruntingthorpe and minor adjustments to the suspension were made trackside by friendly mechanics.

On Track

At Bruntingthorpe the car performed like a dream. The team took the four day event one step at a time; the joy at just getting there kept us going through hours of hard work preparing the car and achieving the first goal - passing scrutineering.

Chris Taylor’s beautiful plenum (design by Phil Box using Ricardo Wave) looked superb and worked really well for a long time.

With full engine mapping via DTAfast and Adam Covell’s data processing skills, we were sure to get the best engine setup.

Thanks to all our sponsors for enabling us to build this excellent car. The months of hard work were behind us and the team relax in the glory of being 6th placed UK team, one of only 17 teams to complete all events and in the knowledge that we’d done a fine job.
