In this tutorial, I will try to teach you the way to merge 2 pictures (or more) using Layer Mask. By the end of this tutorial, I hope that you can make something like this:
Step 1: Create a new file and open any images you would like to merge.
Step 2: Choose the image, DRAG it into you new file or import it. (Ever try this shortcut? Yes, you can use it!). Done? Then, adjust the location as you wish.
Step 3: Choose the image layer (Layer 2). Click Add Layer Mask
Step 4: Make sure that the Layer Mask is chosen. Choose Black as colour and select Gradient Tool. Choose the Gradient style as in picture below 
It will set a gradient tone to transparent layer.
Step 5: Now, click and drag. The tone is now on your command. Play with it until you feel it is just perfect. Remember, you can always undo by (Ctrl + Z). If it is still rubbish, Select all (Ctrl + A) and press the button Delete. Repeat the procedure several times until you are happy with it 
Step 6: Add a little bit spice to it until u are done Good luck!
