We have design a WordPress theme called Community 2.0, a WordPress theme that has been built with the community spirit in mind.
Lately, we often come across the term social media and how it has effect our life. Despite that, knowing how each of them linked up is something unique to explore. In this article, I will try to share the relationship between the social media services and how it could help you to improve the way you use them.

Evolution of RSS feed

Maybe it isn’t too much to say that RSS feed is the gap breaker between existing Internet technology and social media. But how? From RSS feed technology, many services has been created to cater the hungry Internet readers namely Google Reader, Times and even the brilliant RSS composer called xFruits. One of the services that they provide is the ability to combine numbers of feed into one. You can even convert your RSS feed to Voice!

But RSS doesn’t stop there. It integrates with twitter by the means of twitterfeed that allow you to automatically tweet from your feed. Inside the twitter service, there is are feeds for every users if you are aware of it – RSS for Tweet Update and RSS for User Favourite. Oh, don’t forget the RSS feed for Twitter Search results. If you are job seeker, you can keep updated when someone tweet about a certain job. Let say, web design job. Or if you can also track what people said about your product. For example, FreshBooks. The easiest way to produce a content with a feed is blog and there is always one that supersede the other – presenting you the award winning publishing platform WordPress!

WordPress wonders

WordPress (WP) is an amazing platform. It can be intergrated with over 45 different social media services with just using ShareThis plugin. If that is boring, what if you can integrate WordPress with LinkedIn profile? It is useful for business owners as it allows their website content to reach more users in a different environment and people.

The wonders of WP doesn’t stop there. You can now synchronize it with the iPhone using Automattic’s WordPress for iPhone apps. It allows you to write posts, upload photos, edit pages, and manage comments from this revolutionary smart phone.

From the same company, they also produce IntenseDebate, a comment system management plugin. This WP plugin enable comment threading, comment voting and reputation point for good commentators so that you can implement the appraisal system and potentially giving rewards to your valuable website readers and visitors.

Social media fruits

Fruit here means what does social media gave to us in return. Firstly, it creates opportunities to businesses and individuals. After the existence of twitter, how many companies have been built? How many people got hired? With the current economic crisis, social media slips through it steadily while we can still celebrate the symphony of the Internet on the social media platform.

Social media has given us the chance to connect with people that we never thought we could have met. In a business perspective, social media allows you to collaborate with your clients effectively using many tools either online or offile. For example, SlideShare which allows you to upload and share your presentation slides online. And not forgetting social meet up such as BarCamp or Tweetup where you get a chance to meet with people behind their screen name.

Listed above are few examples of how the social media services linked up with themselves as well as other services. Feel free to drop me a line on what you think about it or perhaps share with the rest your social media journey experience.
